Żmijowiec zwyczajny (Echium vulgare L.)

Echium vulgare

Flower meadows cannot, of course, be without the European Echium. It is a long-flowering annual or biennial plant growing up to 100 cm in height. It has oblong lanceolate coarse pubescent leaves of moderate green color.

It captivates with its inflorescences of beautiful tubular flowers in the color of blue and purple. This plant not only attracts our eyes with its interesting appearance, but is also attractive to insects. It is a honey plant that effectively attracts pollinating insects through intensely colored flowers and a dotted stem. The Polish name of Żmijowiec comes from the stamens resembling a viper tongue and the old use of the plant against viper bites. It was also used as a rodent poison and oil was pressed from it. Currently, it is used in cosmetics for the care of acne skin and pimples (it clears the sebaceous ducts and cleans the epidermis). And drinking Echium Echinacea infusions helps you fall asleep thanks to its relaxing properties.
